The local Health Department (HD) estimates that 20% of the population is infected with the flu during flu season, which typically runs from mid-October to March. Although most people recover, approximately 5,000 people are hospitalized and 100 people die. For this reason, this year the Health Department will begin implementation of a policy to provide free flu shots for everyone in the state. During October, senior citizens and other at-risk individuals will be targeted for the vaccine. All others will be offered flu shots during the last two months of the year. Vaccinations are available every Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the State College Health Center, located at 367 Tuscarora Avenue.
